Structure Breeds freedom

Structure Breeds freedom

We’re well in to the school year and fall sports… and for most of our youth, high school and college athletes that means busy schedules! That being said, many of our athletes have lofty goals and know they need to put in the work to achieve those goals. So how can you do it all? Workouts, practices, classes, homework, time with friends, sleeping in, video games, etc. and achieve your goals? Have a plan!

While it may force you to sit down and take a moment to think; organizing your days, weeks and months is the main step to getting more free time. As counter-intuitive as it sounds, having a structured schedule will allow you to use and manage your time more efficiently. Thus, allowing you to have more freedom.

So how do you go about restructuring your life for efficiency? Here are 11 tips to follow if you’re just starting out:

  • Set goals for every aspect of life and make sure they’re realistic
  • Schedule out your free time
  • Make a daily to-do list the night before
  • Know at what parts of the day you’re most efficient at various tasks
  • Batch similar tasks together
  • Reward yourself for completing tasks
  • Find an accountability partner
  • Be realistic with how long a task will take
  • Be realistic about how much you can get done in a day
  • Have a refocusing strategy for when you get distracted
  • Schedule a weekly make-up hour for tasks you didn’t complete on time

Provided below is our M.A.P. or Monthly Accountability Program. This is a great tool to use to organize your days, weeks and month. This will help you set goals, develop a structured schedule around these goals and then reap the rewards of more free time due to your efficiency of task/time management!
